These photos were taken on the D&SNG High Line in August and September of 1999.
This is the High Bridge just south of Tacoma. This is the north end of the High Line. Even though Silverton is higher than Durango,
while traveling over the High Line to Silverton, the railroad is actually descending. This section of line was
built in 1882 with men being lowered from the cliff top to set dynamite charges. The cost of this section was about
$100,000 per mile in 1882.
These shots were taken from the back platform of the Alamosa.

The Animas river is in this shot.

These
three shots were taken from the Galloping Goose. We saw a fine photo opportunity and Wayne Brown (the driver) waited
for the D&SNG train to get on the ledge.



In this photo is a bird. I was later told that it was a golden eagle. I enlarged the
section with the bird below. What do you think ?
