Animas River Canyon photos

These photos were taken in August and September of 1999 in the Animas River Canyon on train rides from Durango to Silverton, Colorado. These show various views of the canyon and train. The railroad is very close to the water level for much of the 46 miles.

This photo is typical of the final few miles into Silverton. Slide zones are frequent (both snow and rock). In fact the first day we rode, was the first day the RR was open all the way to Silverton after a rock slide closed the RR for 2-3 days.
