484 K-36 photos

These photos were taken in the early 1990's in Chama, New Mexico. Some of these photos can actually be used as scale drawings. The black and white painted carpenter's square in the photos has the black and white changing on the one foot marks. On the long end of the square, the black and white stripes are both one inch wide. On the short end of the square, the inside white stripe is 1/2" and the outside black strip is one inch.

This shot of 484 was taken in 1997 at Cumbres. 484 had just helped the daily eastbound passenger train up the 4% grade from Chama. The road engine was 497 and this photo was taken from the back of caboose 05635, which I had rented for the trip.

This shot of 484 shows the hinge to the smoke box cover with a capitol "D" on it's side. The angle bracket to the left of the builder's plate is one of the attachment points for the pilot plow.

This shot again the hinge to the smoke box cover as well as the hinges to the smoke box front access hatch.

These photos were taken at Chama, NM in August/September, 1999.

This shows the front portion of 484. This was the side that went on the ground during plowing operations in the spring of 1999.

This shows the whole side of 484. No damage appears obvious. The truck frame in the foreground is an Andrews truck frame without journal boxes.
