Latest update 6-17-2010

Appletons' Rail Road and Steam Boat Companion 1848 on 2 CDs.

This item contains the entire Appletons' Rail Road and Steam Boat Companion scanned to CD. The pages are scanned at 300 DPI (dots per inch) and all maps are scanned at 600 DPI. Scans shown here on this web page have been reduced in size.

The scan of page 145 part of the Hudson River Railroad fares - for instance, Traveling to New Castle Corners (41 miles) is 75 cents. Connections with stages and fares are also listed. There us a section of history and tourist interest such as "Harlem was founded by the Dutch, in 1658, ..."

Starting on page 145 and continuing on to page 146, is a section about the Hudson River Railroad. It gives several interesting items such as the estimated cost for New York City to Poughkeepsie grading costs for double track.

Below is a portion of the map that is after page 146. It shows railroads, proposed railroads, and wagon roads.
